Week of June 29-July 5
Canada Day, a fresh round of demos, and a rooftop to unwind on. A lighter week, but a good one to show up and share what you’ve been working on.
In case you stayed off LinkedIn or X last week: Toronto was buzzing. Toronto Tech Week wasn’t a single stage or big-ticket production — it was a decentralized, city-wide celebration of builders, companies, and communities showing up.
And Waterloo? Very present.
The Socratica crew kicked off Betakit’s most ambitious event yet, and Waterloo alumni were everywhere — on stage, in the audience, running events, and connecting dots across the ecosystem.
More on that soon in the monthly recap.
For now, if you’re feeling the momentum, keep an eye on something new:
The students behind Hack the North are working on turning the days around their fall hackathon into something bigger: a Waterloo Tech Week.

✅ Looking Ahead
Tuesday, July 8 — StartupCampWaterloo (it’s back)
Pitch your ambition. A low-stakes, high-energy room to try out your idea and see who it resonates with. This is like a Devhouse, but where pitches and slides are welcome. No judgement. Just the opportunity for feedback and practice.
This event has a long history, where Miovision, Top Hat, Well.ca, Pager Duty, and even an early version of Tailscale, etc. All pitched at their earliest stage.
If the weather allows, we might be on the rooftop.
